If you have been looking for instructions on how to hypnotize someone step by step by searching online, you have probably come up empty. There seems to be an abundant amount of information on the origins, history, and psychology of hypnosis all across the internet. However, many people get frustrated because they can't find a simple, step-by-step guide written in plain English on how to hypnotize people.
So here, in a nutshell, are the basic steps you can use to hypnotize others:
1. Establish Rapport With Your Subject
If you are going to hypnotize someone, you need your subject to be comfortable with you. That is all "rapport" means. To like and be comfortable with someone. You can do this by calmly explaining to your "patient" that hypnosis is not mysterious. In fact, they will be awake and alert the entire time, fully able to respond to things around them at any time. They will simply be relaxed and calm, yet fully aware of their surroundings at all times. Do this in a soothing, understanding voice.
2. Relax Your Subject
Once you have gained rapport, you need to get your subject to relax. First, have them close their eyes. Now, in a slow, soothing and relaxed tone, tell them to breathe in and out slowly. Tell them to focus on their breathing ... in and out. Slowly. Repeat this 7-10 times, always with a slow, relaxing tone. Good. Now, have them focus on their body. Begin with the feet. Imagine your feet feel totally relaxed and calm. Move up the body until you get to the top ... making sure you describe the legs, hips, stomach, chest, arms, neck, and face all becoming relaxed, calm. Again, tell them in an ever slowing, relaxing tonality.
Tell them in your soothing voice that they are becoming more and more relaxed. Tell them to go deeper. Tell them they are now going deeper and are becoming even more relaxed. Tell them to listen to the sound of your voice ...
(At first, they were focused on a number of things: the room, the people in the room, the apprehension about being hypnotized, and you. Then, they were only focused on their breathing and their body becoming relaxed. And now, if you have done your job well, they are only focused on the sound of your voice and how wonderfully relaxed they feel. Any anxiety has slipped away. Their conscious mind is perfectly at rest. And you are now able to direct their subconscious mind to obey the subtle commands you give.)
3. Direct Your Subject
It's at this point that you are most in control. You now have the ability to persuade and influence your subject's mind quite easily. So, before you even begin a hypnosis session, you should have a plan in mind on what direction you wish to give. Are you trying to help your subject stop smoking? Overcome a phobia? This will determine exactly what you say.
Your commands are basically statements made in a positive, enthusiastic tone. Repeat your most powerful affirmations for maximum effectiveness. And always speak in the present tense. For example, if you are trying to help someone lose weight, never say "I will lose weight" or "I am going to lose weight." Always speak in the here and now: "I lose weight easily", "I enjoy healthy foods", etc.
Of course, there are more advanced command techniques such as age regression, remote dreaming, and more. However, these methods require additional training and more than can be explained in one article.
However, if you really want to learn how to hypnotize someone quickly and easily without going through the traditional induction process described above, you will want to find out more about "covert hypnosis". Covert hypnosis is simply the ability to hypnotize anyone instantly without their knowledge. It's much more powerful than traditional hypnosis simply because the person doesn't realize they are being hypnotized.
